EFFUTU MCE VISITS OKYEREKO ACCIDENT VICTIMS

The Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, visited the victims of Tuesday’s calamitous accident that claimed 16 lives on the spot at Okyereko in the Gomoa East District near Winneba.

Over 40 others who sustained several degrees of injuries in the accident involving a bus with registration number GT 5866-L and a fuel tanker with registration number WR 2063-10 were rushed to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Winneba where they are currently receiving treatment.

Information gathered indicated that the passengers on board the bus who were mainly Sierra Leonians and Liberians were traveling from Liberia to the Buduburam camp with the fuel tanker traveling towards the Apam direction.

Both drivers involved in the gory accident which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, May 30, 2023 are alive and receiving treatment at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital at Winneba.

Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim who visited the victims in the company of the Effutu Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Banini Dzorgbenyui Kwadwo and other management members of the Assembly was met by the Deputy Director of Nursing Services (DDNS) of the hospital, Madam Josephine Okine who led the MCE and the team to the Accident and Emergency Unit of the Hospital to check on how the victims were responding to treatment.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim wished them well and assured them of the hospitals readiness to offer the needed medication for their recovery.

He advised all drivers who ply the Accra-Cape Coast Highway to comply with road safety regulations to avoid such accidents from occurring to save innocent lives.

The Effutu MCE later met and interacted with the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Hon. Desmond De-Graft Paitoo who had also visited the hospital on a similar mission.

The Medical Director of the Trauma and Specialist Hospital, Dr. Prah, told the delegation that the victims were responding to treatment.

The Vice Chairman of the Sierra Leone Community in Ghana, Mr. John Gbaya- Kokoya, expressed the appreciation of the entire Sierra Leone Community back home and in Ghana to the MCE and his team for the visit to inspire hope in this trying moment. He appealed for support in the treatment of the victims.
