EMA ORGANIZES CLEAN-UP EXERCISE

The Central Regional Coordinating Council through Effutu Municipal Assembly joined forces with the Effutu Traditional Council on Monday, May 1, 2023 to organize a massive clean-up exercise as part of preparations and efforts towards the celebration of the 2023 Aboakyir Festival.

The exercise was in fulfilment of an initiative by the Regional Minister for Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies within the Central Region to embark on massive clean-up exercises as part of measures towards ensuring clean and healthy Districts in the region.

The exercise, which started at 6:00 am in all 18 Electoral Areas in the Municipality, lasted for about four hours with shops and markets closed to pave way for a successful clean – up exercise.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, who was joined by the Central Regional Director of the Environmental Health Department, Mr. William Freeman Goku and the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Banini Dzorgbenyui Kwado, led Heads of the various Government Departments and Agencies in the Municipality, Staff of the Municipal Assembly, Personnel from the Ghana Prison Service, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Property Owners, Traders and Residents to participate in sweeping, removing debris

and clearing weeds in the Winneba Township. The team also took pains to desilt chocked gutters along the major streets in the Winneba Township.

Addressing the participants after the exercise. Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, said that the Assembly was determined to work towards ensuring that residents live in a healthy environment devoid of untidy conditions in the communities within the Municipality. He challenged the residents to take full responsibility of cleaning the environment to ensure a healthy society. 

Hon. Zubairu Kassim stated that this year’s Aboakyir Festival will be celebrated in a healthy environment to project the cultural values of the Effutu people with the aim of driving in investors into the Municipality to push its development agenda forward.

The Municipal Chief Executive in the company of senior officers of the Effutu Municipal Assembly later paid a courtesy call the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII to assure him of the Assembly’s readiness to partner with the traditional Council for a successful celebration.
