CHARLOTTESVILLE SISTER CITY FOUNDATION DONATES MEDICAL EQUIPMENT WORTH $500,000 TO EFFUTU MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT HOSPITAL

The Winneba, Ghana, Charlottesville VA United States Sister City programme has presented medical equipment far in excess of $500,000 to the Effutu Municipal Government Hospital in Winneba.

The items received included a Slit Lamp which aids in having a better view of the anterior chamber of the eye for pre and post-surgical co-management as well as helps with the diagnosis of other eye conditions such as Uveitis. The rest included a Privacy Screen, Adjustable Tables, Delivery Birds, Crutches, an Auto Refractor, Forcimeter and a Fundus Camera (Optovue) with a Laptop among others.

Handing-Over the items, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim who was joined by the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII to present the items, said that the donation was part of the programmes in the memorandum of understanding signed between the two cities in 2010.

He noted that the Charlottesville Foundation in the United State of America upon their visit to Winneba in 2022 promised to respond positively to a request by their Effutu counterparts to support the Municipal Hospital with the provision of modern hospital equipment to boost quality healthcare delivery in the area.

He expressed gratitude to the Charlottesville Foundation in the USA for continuously supporting the various sectors of the Effutu economy including education, security and health with an appeal to the hospital management and staff to put the equipment to good use whiles building a maintenance culture to prolong their lifespan to serve future generations.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim, lauded the Member of Parliament, Hon. Alexander Kwamena Afenyo- Markin for providing the leadership that continues to drive in more partners for the development of the Effutu area

Adding his voice to the call for the maintenance of the equipment, the Paramount Chief for the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII, cautioned against manhandling and negligence likely to cause the equipment to break down to defeat the purpose for which they were provided.

Nenyi Ghartey VII, thanked the Charlottesville Foundation for always keeping the bond between the two cities by supporting Winneba in diverse ways to realize her development potentials.

On his part the Medical Superintendent of the Effutu Municipal Government Hospital, Dr. Akwasi Bota, expressed the appreciation of the of the facility to the donors for the gesture and assured that the Hospital will put them to good use to improve healthcare delivery in the Municipality.
