GOVERNMENT TO UPGRADE WINNEBA TOWN ROADS

A pre-commencement meeting has been held for the up-Grading and Partial reconstruction of 8.1 kilometres of some selected roads within the Winneba Township and its surrounding communities including Rabisam Junction- Water Works (1kilometer), Baptist Hospital Road, Nssuekyir – Warabeba, (1.6kilometers) and Gyahadze- Nssekyir- Sankor (5.2kilometers).

The 18 months duration Project which was awarded in 2021 as part of the package that came with the hosting of the ECOWAS Summit in Winneba is set to commence on August 29, 2022 and end on February 28, 2024 with the Ghana Highways Authority supervising the project worth Ghc 26,335,153.

The Central Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority, Mr. Mark Okyere, who chaired the meeting explained the terms and agreement of the contract signed between the Roads Ministry and Core Constructions Limited, the firm which won the bid for the project. He said that project was being financed by the Government of Ghana.

Giving a breakdown of the selected roads which form part of the contract, Mr. Okyere shed light on the duties and authority of the engineers with a passionate appeal on the Contractor to complete the work on schedule.

On his part the Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, urged the contractor to execute the project based on the specification approved in the contract.

Applauding the President and the Government of the New Patriotic Party for continuously prioritizing the development of Effutu, Hon. Zubairu Kassim noted that the roads when completed will ease the burden on residents in accessing quality roads.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim, made a special appeal to the Contractor to recruit the youth in Winneba as part of its work force for local content, thereby helping to reduce youth unemployment in the area.

He assured them of the support of the Assembly in ensuring that the contract is completed on schedule to benefit the people.

The contractor, Mr. Nutifafa Afanyedor, of Core Construction Limited and his team were also sent to sites of the project to determine the starting and end points.

He pledged to deliver a quality job and on time to serve the purpose for the construction.
