MINISTER INSPECTS WINNEBA LANDING BEACH

Deputy Minister of Transport, Frederick Obeng Adom on Wednesday May 20, 2022 paid a working visit to the Winneba Landing Beach construction site to inspect the progress of work as well as interact with the fisher folks in a bid to addressing a seaming impasse between the fisher folks and the construction firm undertaking the project.

The fisher folks are demanding a redirection of a blockade at the landing beach site at Winneba to end the destruction of canoes and fishing gears by tidal waves.

The fisher folks have accused the construction firm of being the cause of the recent destruction of canoes and fishing gears by a heavy storm and have therefore called on the Government to act swiftly by calling the firm to order.
Responding to the issues raised, the Deputy Minister said the construction of the landing beach when completed would go a long way to improve fishing activities at Winneba and other surrounding fishing communities and would also create jobs and wealth for the citizenry who are predominately fishermen and fishmongers.

He continued that once completed, the facility will also bring a lot of relief to the fishermen and the fisher folk, who constitute a greater number of the population.

Hon. Obeng Adom assured the people that Government will look into their concerns and address them accordingly and also appealed to them to unite and fully support the project for a successful completion.He charged the construction firm to consider the concerns and plights of the people to deliver a quality job to serve the purpose for its construction.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, advised the residents of the area to exercise restraint and trust in the Government for an amicable resolution of the impasse.

He said that the project when completed will reduce the unemployment situation in the area as well as boost the local economy of Wiineba.
