EFFUTU ASSEMBLY BIDS FAREWELL TO SISTER-CITY DELEGATION

The Effutu Municipal Assembly on Wednesday May 11, 2022 held a farewell dinner reception for a Sister- City delegation from the USA which was on a one-week visit to the Effutu Municipality.

The delegation, led by former Mayor of Charlottesville, Virginia, David Norris, was made up of educationists, businessmen and women, estate developers, medical practitioners, journalists and librarians.

The trip was to among other things explore the origins of slavery and the preservation of history at one of the main transit points of the transatlantic slave trade as well as exchange programmes of mutual interest.

Speaking at the Farewell Dinner reception, Mayor Norris, was of much praise to the people of Effutu and Ghana as a whole for the warm reception that greeted their arrival and stay in the country during the visit.

He commended the leadership of the country for ensuring peace and stability in the country despite several incidents of unrest in the West African Sub- region a feat he said has motivated the Charlottesville delegation to always join in the celebration of the Aboakyir Festival of the chiefs and people of Effutu and to also partner them in their developmental agenda, adding that the Sister-City Foundation was established to promote peace among people in all parts of the world.On his part the Municipal Chief Executive of the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, thanked the Charlottesville Sister-City Foundation for their continuous support towards the development of the Effutu administrative area of Ghana.He was optimistic that the relationship between Effutu and Charlottesville would continuously go a long way to achieve mutual benefits to both partners.  The Paramount Chief for the Effutu Traditional Area, Neenyi Ghartey VII, expressed the appreciation of the Effutu people to the delegation with a presentation of branded traditional cloths and a call on delegation to always return to support the development of Effutu.
