Muslims in Winneba on Sunday, June 16, 2024 joined the rest of the world to mark this year’s Eid- Ul-Adha festival at Wonsom, a community in the Effutu Municipality.
Eid-ul-Adha, known as the “Festival of Sacrifice,” commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering faith and willingness to sacrifice his son, Ismail, in obedience to Allah’s command. This act of profound devotion was met with divine intervention, as Allah provided a ram to be sacrificed in Ismail’s place. This story serves as a cornerstone of faith and a reminder of the virtues of obedience, sacrifice, and selflessness.
Addressing the Muslim gathering in Winneba after the prayers, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim charged Muslims to reflect on the lessons from Prophet Ibrahim’s experience with a call on them to adopt a spirit of selflessness and compassion. “As we celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, let us remember the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and allow it to inspire our actions,” he said. “His story teaches us about the power of faith, the importance of obedience to divine will, and the value of selflessness.”
Hon. Zubairu Kassim highlighted the importance of extending compassion and support to those in need, particularly during the festive season. He urged Muslims to share their blessings with the less fortunate, reinforcing the communal spirit that Eid-Ul-Adha promotes.
He advised Muslims in Winneba and its environs to see their brothers and sisters in other faith as one people with a common purpose and admonished them as well to seek for peace and unity of the country and work hard to accelerate its development.
The Effutu MCE stressed the need for political leaders in the country to contribute meaningfully towards the attainment of peaceful election on December 7, 2024, by impressing upon their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum devoid of violence and intimidation.
He appealed to the Muslim youth to promote peace and refrain from the use of intemperate or hate language to provoke their political opponents as that could undermine the sustenance of the prevailing peace and unity before, during and after the crucial general election.
He congratulated all Muslims in Effutu on the occasion of the Eid by extending the well wishes of the Vice President and the Effutu Member of Parliament as well as pledged the Assembly’s support in all their deliberations.
