Thirty new teachers posted to the Effutu Municipal Education Directorate have benefitted from the One (1) Teacher- One (1) Laptop Project commissioned by the Member of Parliament for the Effutu Constituency to enhance teaching and learning.
Under the programme, all teachers posted to the Municipality are provided with brand new HP laptops by the Member of Parliament to aid their work towards imparting knowledge into students in the Municipality, especially in the area of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
At a Stakeholders Meeting with the people of Winneba to account for his stewardship on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin, also donated 70 Desk Top computers to the Ghana Library Board in Winneba for distribution to the 17 Libraries built by the MP to enhance the students’ knowledge base in ICT education.
Addressing his constituents, Hon. Afenyo- Markin underscored the importance of engaging with the people for whom development is meant for in building a better nation and meeting their development needs.
He said that he will continue to offer the leadership that will propel Effutu towards the path pf prosperity as well as the citadel of democracy in which all citizens will enjoy.
The Deputy Majority leader of Ghana’s 8th Parliament touched on gains made in the various sectors of development including health, education, fishing and tourism as well as general infrastructure since 2021.
He said that the realization of the Effutu Dream is anchored on the principles of sustainable development which requires the contribution of all and sundry in the operationalization of the policies needed to drive home the agenda.
Hon. Afenyo- Markin gave an account of the 2021 hosting right of Winneba to handle the Extraordinary Summit of the ECOWAS Parliament which according to him was a huge success with its accompanied benefits which boosted the local economy in many ways.
He announced that Winneba has ones again won the bid to host over 300 delegates from the West African Sub- Region made up of 115 parliamentarians from the 16 ECOWAS member countries and 70 international media practitioners as well as other officials in the 2023 Extraordinary Summitt of the ECOWAS Parliament slated for September 29 to October 10 2023, to deliberate on issues militating against the sub-region. The MP urged local businesses to take advantage of the summit to make gains to shore up their profit margins to affect the local economy positively.
He urged the people of Winneba to pounce on the summit to showcase the rich cultural values of the Effutu people to the rest of the world to increase the prestige and dignity of the area with and appeal to the youth to desist from acts that may derail the gains made towards placing the name of the area on the international map.
Touching on the Fishing Industry, Hon. Afenyo- Markin noted that Government has completed the construction of a Landing Beach Site Project for the Municipality and awaiting commissioning to boost fishing which is the main source of livelihood for the fisherfolks.
He said that the construction of a regional Childrens Hospital in the Municipality was progressing steadily and will handle health related cases among children in the Central Region and beyond when completed.
Hon. Afenyo-Markin intimated that the construction a tissue making factory under the 1D1F Programme in the area was about 60% completed and will provide a minimum of direct 800 jobs for the youth when completed.
He hinted that plans are far advanced for the commencement of the transformation of “Sir Charles Beach” into an international beach resort
The Effutu rallied for the support of all residents especially the youth whose support he said was required beyond mere participation in the realization of the Effutu Dream.
Delivering the purpose of the engagement at the meeting which was attended by high profile dignitaries including the Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, urged all residents of Effutu to cultivate the spirit of communalism to support the MP’s development agenda to achieve the Effutu Dream.
He called for an all-hands-on deck approach anchored on patriotism and collaboration and devoid of extreme partisanship towards achieving a better Effutu being driven by Hon. Afenyo- Markin’s led administration as the Member of Parliament.
