EFFUTU MCE CHARGES STAKEHOLDERS TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION

The Effutu Municipal Education Directorate on Friday, February 17, 2023, held a stakeholders Engagement Meeting with the Effutu Municipal Assembly and Effutu Traditional Council to analyze and discuss the downward trend of the Basic Education Certificate Examination results in the Municipality.

The Municipality has since 2016 witnessed a downward trend of 24.1% in the BECE results, a situation that called on all stakeholders to meet and brainstorm to remedy the fallen standards of education.

Giving her welcome address, the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Mabel Judith Micah, bemoaned the rate of the decline in the BECE results in the Municipality. She said that the Municipal Assembly headed by Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim and the Member of Parliament Hon. Alexander Afenyo- Markin have invested heavily in education by supporting the Directorate with logistics and infrastructure needed for effective teaching and learning and therefore saw no reason why the Municipality’s output in BECE results  should continue to depreciate rather than appreciate .

Mrs. Mabel Judith Micah noted that her outfit will continue to work hard towards ensuring the reversal of this downward trend by offering quality tuition aimed at developing a balanced set of capabilities of children required to become economically proactive as well as develop sustainable livelihoods to contribute to peaceful and democratic societies to ensure an enhanced individual well-being.

She appealed to all the stakeholders of education in then Municipality to join forces with the education directorate to work for a common good of raising the standard of education in the Municipality.

On his part, a worried Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, has called on parents in the Municipality to take a painstaking interest in the education of their wards for a better tomorrow.

Expressing his disapproval of the downward trend, the Effutu Municipal Chief Executive, said that the performance of some students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the municipality called for a concerted efforts by all stakeholders in Effutu to help address the challenges.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim all the people of Effutu to help break the cycle of poverty through quality education to help reduce inequalities in the societies to foster tolerance as well as facilitate peace amongst all residents in the Municipality.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim admonished private basic schools that scored zero percent in the 2021 BECE in the Municipality to conform to the set standards for delivering quality tuition and learning or fold up to prevent any further disgrace to the Municipality. He charged the teachers to put in much effort to help reverse trend he described as worrisome to the future of the Effutu Municipality.

The Chairman for the occasion and Paramount Chief of the Effutu Traditional Area, Nenyi Ghartey VII, on his part advised parents to prioritize the education of their wards to make them achieve the goals of education. This he said will help train them to be responsible adults in future.
