Eng. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, Head of the Local Government Service, has challenged students to appreciate the manner in which the information Age has revolutionized the world to come to terms with the changing times of the world.

He said that the rapid development of technology has changed the structures and systems of education requiring for students to be abreast with changing times so as not to be left behind in this global age of development.

The former Central Regional Minister who was the Guest Speaker at the Centenary celebration of the Methodist School in Winneba on Friday, December 9, 2022 noted that there was the need for the development of the requisite skills necessary for building the needed infrastructure in support of the transition. This he said was crucial in maintaining the digital standards required with time.

Speaking on the theme “100 Years of Methodist Basic Education, Continuity and Change in the Digital Era”, Eng. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur, said that digitalization was a major pillar of Government in recent times and must be deployed and employed to support all spheres of national lives including education. He said that there was the need to use digital technology to stimulate the growth and transformation of the Ghanaian economy to ensure that every Ghanaian derives the maximum benefits from this process.

Eng. Dr. Nana Ato Arthur noted that the theme was in line with the Government’s 2018  Education Strategic Plan, ESP 2018-2030 with anchored reforms to transform teaching and learning and improve educational outcomes. The plan, according to him is aimed to reform education on the back of ICT with the objective to develop and nurture the desire and competence of the Ghanaian child in the use of ICT, equip pre- tertiary learners with ICT Skills, infuse ICT into educational management, transform teacher development and tilt tertiary education to technology based training.

He said that the importance of ICT education cannot be underestimated since it allows for the flexibility of better communication and organization in administration of school activities in the wake of international shocks including the recent COVID 19 Pandemic.

In an earlier address, Dr. Joel Yarnney of the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, who is a product of the school said that the celebration was necessary to galvanize all who have the wellbeing of the school into action.

He said that the change in the country’s educational system fits the needs of the present to develop the child for a better future.

Dr. Yarnney however, bemoaned the dwindling influence of the church in schools which he said was crucial in ensuring discipline in schools. He stated that society would be eluded of success in life if discipline is not upheld at all levels especially in schools.

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kasim, joined the celebration with a pledge to support the renovation and rebuilding of the school to bring back its glory times as well as place Effutu at its proper place on the educational ladder of the country.

Most. Rev. Titus Awotwe Pratt, a former Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church of Ghana chaired the event with an appeal to all stakeholders to come together to make education a priority for all to realize the nation building agenda.
