EFFUTU MCE CHARGES STAKEHOLDERS TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES IN EDUCATION

The Municipal Chief Executive for the Effutu Municipal Assembly, Hon. Alhaji Zubairu Kassim, has called on stakeholders in education to come together and work to achieve the desired goals in education in the Municipality.

He bewailed the poor performance of some students in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the municipality which he said left much to be desired and therefore, urged the stakeholders to help address the challenges, addingthat quality education was crucial in breaking the cycle of poverty as well as helping to reduce inequalities whiles fostering tolerance to facilitate peace in societies.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim made the call at a Stakeholders Meeting to mark the Annual Municipal Education Week Celebration of the Effutu Municipal Directorate of Education on the theme “Quality Education, Our Future: The Role of Stakeholders” at Winneba on Friday, June 24, 2022.

Touching on the massive investment Government was making in the education sector, he noted that the NPP administration had taken away the element of cost which had consistently remained a barrier to education in the country by introducing the Free Senior High School Policy to absorb the cost of second cycle education for the youth in the country.

Hon. Zubairu Kassim highlighted the immense support the Government through the Municipal Assembly continues to offer the Effutu Education Directorate in a bid to offer and improve quality education in the Municipality.  He mentioned the provision and distribution of 500 Metal Dual Desks, 12 Office tables and chairs for teachers, school cupboards, a notice board and 24 Library chairs to 16 selected schools in the municipality as a GETFUND initiative under the current administration at supporting the furniture needs in schools.

He implored the teachers and pupils to be time conscious and punctual at school and urged parents to attend the Parent-Teacher Association meetings regularly to be abreast of developments in the school.

On her part, the Municipal Director of Education, Madam Mabel Judith Micah, noted that quality education that prepares the child for life  and not for  testing is the one that focuses on the child’s whole social, emotional, mental, and physical cognitive regardless of gender, race, ethnicity  or socio-economic status.

She said that quality education aims at developing a balanced set of capabilities of children required to become economically proactive as well as develop sustainable livelihoods to contribute to peaceful and democratic societies to ensure an enhanced individual well-being. 

Madam Mabel J. Micah showered praises on the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Zubairu Kassim and the Municipal Assembly for investing heavily in education by supporting the Directorate with logistics and infrastructure needed for effective teaching and learning.

She also applauded the Member of Parliament, Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin for invaluable contribution to the education sector in the Municipality by providing infrastructure and other needs of education.

Particular mention was made with commendation to the Member of Parliament for the construction and furnishing of 13 Libraries which recently caught the eye of the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for admiration.

A presentation on the general situation of the education sector in the Municipality with gains and challenges was made to the participants who included chiefs, parents and teachers in the area.

The stakeholders meeting also allowed for questions and contributions from the participants on how to improve on the standards of education in the Effutu Municipality.
